CCTV & Access Control For Schools
Add to Information BasketWhen choosing CCTV, Access Control, the equipment that you have to choose from can be mind boggling. We have tried here to provide you with good sound advice on the type of systems that will best suit your needs.
Whether you are a School, University, College or any other type of educational premises CCTV and Access Control is normally installed to protect pupils & staff.
Teachers, Council leaders and Parents welcome the implementation of a good quality CCTV systems installed in the corridors, classrooms, meeting areas, entrances, exits playgrounds and sports fields.
Why do you need CCTV?
The reasons for having the CCTV installed should be clear and the following should be taken into consideration: -
Staff & pupil safety
Vandalism
Bullying
Truancy
Smoking
Theft
Graffiti
Privacy
Foul and abusive language
Careful design
The CCTV system should be designed around the needs of the School, University or College rather than the cameras being sited where the installation company feel they should be. Frame rates should be discussed and you should understand why they are important to the benefits you will get from your system.
Specific purpose
Each Camera should have a specific purpose and should have a clear measurement on the expectations of the camera. See the download section to the left of this page (UK Police requirements) which gives more advice.
Image quality
The quality of the CCTV camera must be good 24/7 (if necessary) but most systems installed fall down due to insufficient lighting or the wrong type of lighting. This detail is carefully considered by the Cam-tech CCTV consultants and should not be overlooked. Equally important is the type of Digital Recorder used. Too often the image quality on the playback of some of the cheap DVR's available via the Internet is very poor.
Reputable make.
You should ensure your installer chooses a reputable DVR manufacturer that has provides a full UK support service rather than an overseas manufacturer that you can never get on the ground support from.
Recording
The recording medium should be carefully thought out and you should be clear on how long you need to keep images for. Do not let your CCTV company dictate this to you.
Data Protection Act - CCTV
You should be made aware of the Data Protection Act in relation to CCTV and how it affects you and your system. Again we have provided a couple of documents to help you with this, but you must have a purpose document that is relevant.
Free consultation and survey
Cam-tech offer a free consultation and system design to include a very comprehensive report and a breakdown of recommendations so you can prioritise and choose the areas that fit into your budget.
